Mistakes. We all make them, we all hide them. Why when we are human? The waitress that spills the cup of water is more attractive because they are relatable. I too am a klutz. We feel passionately about a person that is in rehab after a lifetime of bad choices. How beautiful is repentance? Yet, we do not have any desire to admit our own deficiencies. We lie about how much we spend on a shirt that’s only purpose is to impress someone that will not care. We spend our life scrolling on our phones and pretend we are productive. We seek a perfect image, but along the way we lose touch of what makes us special. There is no such thing as perfect when we are all inherently beautiful and unique beings. Sometimes I am sad. And you are too. I frequently feel awkward. And you do too.
We mustered the energy to go on a social outing. Maybe it is a tennis class or a whiskey tour. We arrive a little late to avoid the initial social avoidance when we all are standing around. On our own island we are terrified to admit who we are. We fear the future, looking back on our past of regrets that have led to our midcore existence. We spend too much money on our facade, too little time on our soul. To fit in we chose a job we hate, and now there is no escape. There are car payments, credit card debt, and we need money for rent each month. How will we escape? The rat race spins us around and we can no longer see straight. We criticize others so to mitigate our deficiencies. We must maintain the façade at all costs.
What if we were honest? Honest about our mistakes, transparent about our insecurities? No longer would there be a need to speak negatively about others because there is plenty to say about us. This is like talking through your problems. As soon as they are put into spoken words they have been released into the universe and the pressure in your soul has been alleviated. This is the same as when we admit to others who we truly are. We can now reflect upon what we do, and why we do it. Now we have nothing to hide. When approaching a stranger, the curtain between us is lifted and your true beauty can show. Honesty is the best policy. Be your own weird self in front of a stranger, you will be surprised by the reaction. It draws out the most human reaction, humility and love. Among all of our differences, we are all human.
